Urban Iona: Celtic Hospitality In the City by Fr. Kurt Neilson
Saints Peter and Paul Episcopal has been deeply inspired by our exploration of Celtic spirituality. We frequently use Celtic inspired liturgy, and attempt to embody the spirit of the early Church in the Celtic lands.
The Celtic Christians flourished in present-day Ireland, Scotland, and northern Britain from the 4th through the 12th Centuries. They were known for a deep personal experience of Christ, hospitable communities of mixed states of life in which learning and the arts flourished, ministry which flowed from the gifts and talents of the members, and a passion for pilgrimage in distant lands as well in the paths of their own hearts. Their gift-centered, Christ-impassioned example of community, service to those in need, view of creation as blessed, willingness to converse with people of different cultures, and thirst for pilgrimage matches many of the deep hungers of contemporary people.
Some of our members have taken vows as Companions or Culdees of Columba, following a Rule of Life of prayer, study and service. The parish as a whole has also taken Saint Brigid and Saint Columba as patrons, and we demonstrate our commitment to generosity and service in our work with Brigid's Table and Rabab's Sisters.
